Selva Calderon

As a wife, mother of 5, sales manager and business owner, Selva Calderon has got quite the life one would say. Born in Peru, Selva moved to Bowling Green 15 years ago when she enrolled at Western Kentucky University, where she graduated with a degree in Physics. Currently, Selva serves a sales manager at a local distribution center. She is also the founder and owner of Pan American Apparel (started in 2019). As the CEO, she works closely with artisans and sustainable makers from many different countries, such as: Peru, Russia, and Ecuador.

Her passion comes from being a mother. “When I had my baby, my mother would send me organic cotton fabrics and that was very helpful. Letting my babies cry until they fell asleep was not an option for me. So, finding ways to make my children comfortable, became a job for me”, says Selva. Feeding her passion of helping make children cozy, Selva has taught breastfeeding classes, and infant care - March of Dimes classes. She is also a part of a baby wearing group.

What’s Next?

Pan American Apparel was founded in 2019 and the online store was launched January 2021. Selva credits her education and past occupations with helping her thrive as a new business owner. “Things have come full circle for me. I can truly say that all of my past experiences have helped me as a business owner in some way; from WKU, to becoming a mother, to working at a distribution center, they have all taught me something”, says Selva. Her goal is for Pan American Apparel to continue to grow in 2021.

As Pan American Apparel grows, Selva wants to work with vendors all over the world. She also wants to expand her inventory and begin selling shoes, blankets, socks, etc. She would like Pan American Apparel to be sold in gift stores across the Globe!
